Tan Renga – Carpe Diem

Today, I am delighted to participate in the prompt at Carpe Diem for a very personal reason. Kris is featuring my poem, which I posted a few weeks ago. The original post is here : Many Conversations A Haibun/Haiga

The challenge is to add two lines to another poet’s haiku to complete the tan renga.  The added lines can and should echo something in the poem but can shift the meaning in any direction the second poet desires.

        at sunrise

        no words between lovers

        just a kiss

                                                                       a butterfly warming

                                                                       to every blossom

Impossible

1161

~

when pain enters the room

and noise  – like thick smoke,

climbs into the bed

with orders to distract and torment

the truth is, it’s impossible to pray;

when voices rudely shout

setting off alarms somewhere behind the eyes

scaring the familiar silence away

you risk everything, even a tumble out the window

brimming, swimming with all your might

you try to listen

but all you hear is the brass band in your head,

there is a great pressure where once there was equilibrium

you are lost in the cacophony

    choking on your own words,

until a buttery sulphur, a-fluttering,

happens by your window

and wraps you in its prayer.

Future

I have been unable to comment from where I am. I will try to catch up when I have access to my computer again, sometime in the future.

Here are my thoughts on the ‘future’ for Carpe Diem.

****
6:50 AM
what is the future?
6:51AM

****
facing surgery
an old woman wonders
about tomorrow
****

a butterfly
sipping nectar
under a setting sun
